The essay discusses the definition of special collection attributed to the book and library heritage, refuting how it can be applied in an increasingly extensive and focused way if placed in relation to an enhancement of the cultural baggage that that collection represents. The question of valorization understood as a set of activities aimed at promoting use has always been thorny and discussed, but according to the author it can finally be pacified in the framework of values that emerges from the Faro Convention. This allows libraries to broaden the communities of reference and strengthen the participatory library model, both in the physical space and on participatory platforms, then encouraging visits to the physical place. Also contributing to this are the new possibilities for interaction with the Italian digital heritage which appear to be being planned in the framework of the PNRR and the PND and which force cultural heritage entities to get heavily involved again.

Abstract
The essay discusses the definition of special collection attributed to the book and library heritage, refuting how it can be applied in an increasingly extensive and focused way if placed in relation to an enhancement of the cultural baggage that that collection represents. The question of valorization understood as a set of activities aimed at promoting use has always been thorny and discussed, but according to the author it can finally be pacified in the framework of values that emerges from the Faro Convention. This allows libraries to broaden the communities of reference and strengthen the participatory library model, both in the physical space and on participatory platforms, then encouraging visits to the physical place. Also contributing to this are the new possibilities for interaction with the Italian digital heritage which appear to be being planned in the framework of the PNRR and the PND and which force cultural heritage entities to get heavily involved again.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
