During the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we have all experienced how the emergency legislation curtailed, to some extent, many of the freedoms that in ordinary circumstances would have been protected as fundamental rights. While some forms of restriction were certainly necessary to prevent the further spread of the disease, in some cases the measures adopted by various governments have raised serious legal questions. Among these issues, this essay will focus on the restrictions on religious freedom imposed by the Italian government, and in particular how these regulations have restricted the religious freedom of the Catholic Church.

Abstract
During the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we have all experienced how the emergency legislation curtailed, to some extent, many of the freedoms that in ordinary circumstances would have been protected as fundamental rights. While some forms of restriction were certainly necessary to prevent the further spread of the disease, in some cases the measures adopted by various governments have raised serious legal questions. Among these issues, this essay will focus on the restrictions on religious freedom imposed by the Italian government, and in particular how these regulations have restricted the religious freedom of the Catholic Church.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
