Ciro il Grande, Gesù ed i Magi a Betlemme: l’Universalismo Cristiano al cospetto di altre genti

The interpretation of the historical role of Cyrus, the great king of Persia, presented as a “Messiah” in the Bible, and then as a Christos in the Greek version of the Septuaginta, suggested a num¬ber of intercultural connections between Christianity and Zoroastrianism, in particular within the process of evangelization of the Iranian lands. The anointment of Cyrus as other legendary actions attributed to him played a strong influence in the Christian propaganda and had a certain relevance even in the political dialogue between the Christian authorities of the Church of Persia and the Sasanian kings of the 6th century CE.

L’interpretazione del ruolo storico del re persiano Ciro il Grande, presentato come “Messia” nella Bibbia, e poi come Christos nella versione greca dei Septuaginta, ha prodotto una serie di connessioni interculturali tra Cristianesimo e Zoroastrismo, in particolare nel quadro del processo di evangelizzazione delle terre iraniche. L’unzione di Ciro, così come altre azioni leggendarie a lui attribuite, ebbe una forte influenza nella successiva propaganda cristiana ed il ricorso a tali punti di contatto assunse una certa rilevanza anche nel dialogo politico tra la stessa autorità cristiana della Chiesa di Persia ed i re sasanidi del VI secolo d.C.
