International Air Transport Association

The Internatinal Air Transport Association is an international non-governmental organization of airlines, with head office in Montreal, established in 1945, during the International Air Transport Conference held at Havana. Its main bodies are the General Meeting, the Board of Governors, the Director General, the Corporate Secretary, and nine Advisory Councils, and currently presents a two-tiers structure, which comprises the Trade Association and the Tariff Coordination. IATA plays an essential role both in making air services and the infrastructures destined to them ever more safe, reliable and secure, and, through the Traffic Conferences machinery, in the activity of standardizing the conditions to be applied in the relationships between the various suppliers and users of services relating to air navigation. In particular, it deals with the technical, legal, financial, traffic services and agency matters of relevance for the industry, as well as with the setting of fares, rates, conditions and charges.
