Pratiche culturali, ‘artivismo’ e contro-narrazioni sulle migrazioni

The transformative power of cultural practices, and particularly artistic practices, can intervene within the processes of narrative stigmatisation and dehumanisation concerning migration. There is a strong need to investigate those alternative narratives, those new forms of hospitality that are shaped around cultural production, and that are more important than ever to counter the distorted rhetoric conveyed by current political and media public discourses on migration. This paper proposes a reflection on the role that art can play in terms of counter-narrative on migration, opening up new spaces of expression and political participation. The essay begins with an introduction on the role of “artivism” and several examples related to the topic of mobility. Through the analysis of the Atlas of Transitions project, the paper closes with a reflection on the potential of art as a space where to co-construct a new imaginary of diversity and as a device capable of supporting new forms of politicality and participation.
