Rhodium-graphite is easily prepared by reaction of anhydrous rhodium trichloride with 3 equivalemts of potassium graphite (C8K) and is active as an active heterogeneous hydrogenation catalyst for the hydrogenation of carbocyclic and heterocyclic aromatic compounds in hydrocarbon or alcoholic solvents at room temperature and 1 atm of hydrogen pressure.
