This essay aims to offer a series of 'marginalia' to eighteenth-century reflection on the sublime, focusing on the one hand on a more circumscribed spatial and chronological area, that of eighteenth-century England, and on the other hand attempting to restore the proper relevance of the lesser known and studied authors, the so-called 'minor aestheticians', who nevertheless played an important role in defining and giving relevance to this then emerging aesthetic category. In order to provide a less stereotyped view of eighteenth-century British thought on the sublime and to explore lesser-known territories, the essay attempts to show the original source of some concepts or theories generally (and incorrectly) attributed to the major authors; it also reconsiders, from a new perspective, some theoretical elements traditionally accepted as characteristic of the sublime.

Abstract
This essay aims to offer a series of 'marginalia' to eighteenth-century reflection on the sublime, focusing on the one hand on a more circumscribed spatial and chronological area, that of eighteenth-century England, and on the other hand attempting to restore the proper relevance of the lesser known and studied authors, the so-called 'minor aestheticians', who nevertheless played an important role in defining and giving relevance to this then emerging aesthetic category. In order to provide a less stereotyped view of eighteenth-century British thought on the sublime and to explore lesser-known territories, the essay attempts to show the original source of some concepts or theories generally (and incorrectly) attributed to the major authors; it also reconsiders, from a new perspective, some theoretical elements traditionally accepted as characteristic of the sublime.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
