This volume presents a collection of studies on themes and motifs that mark the emergence and formation of modern British and, through contiguity or influence, European aesthetics. In addition to attempting to bring to the fore the intellectual structures and historical-cultural events that determined the formation of a crucial period in the history of modern thought, between empiricism and the Enlightenment, this volume pursues the twofold aim of, on the one hand, verifying whether, within the folds of the various and uninterrupted exegeses of eighteenth-century philosophical and aesthetic thought, there remain themes and motifs, even minor ones, that are worthy of prominence or in-depth study in order to reconsider them; on the other hand, to present material or documents useful for the validation or development of hypotheses put forward by less or more recent critical literature.
