The challenge to explore the meaning of “philosophy” (today) implies, first of all, to consider two key concepts of the history of philosophy: time and soul. Assuming this working hypothesis, the present paper aims to provide a reading of some late ancient and medieval texts that, more or less explicitly, focused on these notions, investigating their possible correlations. Thus, we start from the problem of time as it is raised in the 11th book of Augustine’s Confessions to pass through some treatises of Dietrich of Freiberg to arrive at the reflections on the principle of rationality contained in Albert the Great’s Book on the Nature and Origin of the Soul.

Abstract
The challenge to explore the meaning of “philosophy” (today) implies, first of all, to consider two key concepts of the history of philosophy: time and soul. Assuming this working hypothesis, the present paper aims to provide a reading of some late ancient and medieval texts that, more or less explicitly, focused on these notions, investigating their possible correlations. Thus, we start from the problem of time as it is raised in the 11th book of Augustine’s Confessions to pass through some treatises of Dietrich of Freiberg to arrive at the reflections on the principle of rationality contained in Albert the Great’s Book on the Nature and Origin of the Soul.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
