Accountability and Stakeholder Engagement: Politics and Accounting in Dialogue to Improve Democracy

Starting from the following provocation: “The potential for authentic social and environmental accountability through organised crowd-sourced participation accessible to all citizens with a stake in a sustainable future is under explored.” (Bebbington et al, 2017: 12). This chapter has the objective of reflecting upon the contribution of accountability as regards the theme of populism which through two disciplines, the first of which is politics and the second “accounting”, promotes emancipatory change and democracy.

Partendo dalla seguente provocazione: “Il potenziale per un’autentica responsabilità sociale e ambientale attraverso la partecipazione organizzata di crowd-sourcing accessibile a tutti i cittadini interessati a un futuro sostenibile è sotto-esplorato”. (Bebbington et al, 2017: 12). Questo capitolo si pone l’obiettivo di riflettere sul contributo dell’accountability rispetto al tema del populismo che attraverso due discipline, di cui la prima è la politica e la seconda la “contabilità”, promuove il cambiamento emancipativo e la democrazia.
