In this essay the author explores the long-term dynamics of the relationship between Russian Federation and European Union in the last decades, looking at the “Ukrainian crisis” as a turning point. Particular attention is paid to the developments of the regional integration process in the post-Soviet region. In the light of the strong radicalization of relations between European Union and Russia in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine, the potential renewal of the respective foreign policy lines in the field of regional integration seems undoubtedly to play a crucial role in determining the future directions of their difficult dialogue.
