The current literature supports the therapeutic effectiveness of virtual reality exposure therapy and non-invasive brain stimulation as stand-alone approaches for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and related syndromes. However, studies exploring the combined use of such therapeutic approaches are extremely limited. In this chapter, we provide a complete review of research exploring the effect of combining these two types of treatment in PTSD and related syndromes. We also provide a brief discussion about the main limitations and future directions of this emerging research field which has a relevant potential in boosting the treatment of these mental disorders.

Abstract
The current literature supports the therapeutic effectiveness of virtual reality exposure therapy and non-invasive brain stimulation as stand-alone approaches for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder and related syndromes. However, studies exploring the combined use of such therapeutic approaches are extremely limited. In this chapter, we provide a complete review of research exploring the effect of combining these two types of treatment in PTSD and related syndromes. We also provide a brief discussion about the main limitations and future directions of this emerging research field which has a relevant potential in boosting the treatment of these mental disorders.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
