A disaster raises essential questions about the territories’ and population’s future, mainly when it hits internal areas with a rural vocation. Providing adequate assistance and relief actions should be both a challenge and a crucial point for each emergency management. In the frame of the central Apennines earthquake (2016-2017), this paper aims to investigate the post-disaster institutional response toward the livestock farmers affected, to guarantee the possibility of continuing their work activity. The research shows how these aid actions such as housing and working supports are unadapted for these mountainous territories, due to the limited attention of the local and place-based knowledge in the whole emergency process.
