Ornamento e gioco

The essay carries out an analysis of the proportional system and the redrawing of the base of Loos' project for the new headquarters of the Chicago Tribune. The thesis is that this proportional system, and more generally, the harmonious relationships used by Loos in his buildings, have an ornamental value, considering the original etymological relationship of the term with the concept of "order". Starting from the relationship between Renaissance architecture and music up to the contribution of Schoenberg's harmonic theory, the essay investigates the operational value that the laws of harmony and the rules of composition take on in the process of transfiguration of architectural forms.

Nel saggio vengono svolti un'analisi del sistema proporzionale ed il ridisegno del basamento del progetto di Loos per la nuova sede del Chicago Tribune. La tesi è che tale sistema proporzionale, e più in generale, le relazioni armoniche utilizzate da Loos nei suoi edifici, abbiano un valore ornamentale, considerando la relazione etimologica originale del termine con il concetto di "ordine". A partire dal rapporto tra architettura e musica del Rinascimento fino all'apporto della teoria armonica di Schoenberg, il saggio indaga il valore operativo che le leggi dell'armonia e le regole della composizione assumono nel processo di trasfigurazione delle forme architettoniche.
