The book demonstrates that current EU and national tort law rules are “out of tune” in managing the various issues of complexity raised by advanced autonomous systems. In this respect, the critical analysis firstly addresses several legal challenges brought about by emerging digital technologies, in particular taking into account AI, to EU product liability law. Then, a multilevel analysis of Italian extra–contractual liability theories, applied to an ideal tripartition of AI technologies, in relation to their complexity and autonomy is proposed. The conclusion casts light on recent developments, at EU level, in adopting civil liability rules for artificial intelligence.

Abstract
The book demonstrates that current EU and national tort law rules are “out of tune” in managing the various issues of complexity raised by advanced autonomous systems. In this respect, the critical analysis firstly addresses several legal challenges brought about by emerging digital technologies, in particular taking into account AI, to EU product liability law. Then, a multilevel analysis of Italian extra–contractual liability theories, applied to an ideal tripartition of AI technologies, in relation to their complexity and autonomy is proposed. The conclusion casts light on recent developments, at EU level, in adopting civil liability rules for artificial intelligence.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
