The article deals with the absence of any sure determination of the specific geo-linguistic origin of the Avestan language and its historical ethnolinguistic background. This work thus focuses also on the absence of any historical tribe speaking a dialect considerable as deriving from a variety of Avestan in the Middle Iranian linguistic period, and suggests the possibility that Avestan was a special priestly sacred jargon with a pan-Iranian extension and role.
