In my contribution to the collective volume "Aesthetic Literacy Vol II: Out of Mind" I offer an interpretation of the The Aesthetics of Pop-Rock Music. Starting from Adorno's seminal but critical view of popular music, I focus then on Shusterman's different and pragmatist/meliorist account of the popular arts, which also includes popular music. On this basis, I argue for the possibility of a non-standardized use of standardized musical materials in the context of pop-rock music, trying to exemplify my theses with references to various songwriters and bands, among which Radiohead.
