The chapter offers an overview of the Arabo-Islamic manuscript heritage of Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on the region of the Horn of Africa. Its sections deal with the different typologies of Sub-Saharan Islamic books, the main codicological features of Sub-Saharan manuscripts, the typologies of book collections and their related conservative problems, the preservation strategies to be applied.
