This essay is a comparison of four (plus 1) autobiographies, very different from each other and far apart in time (Agostino, Rousseau, Casanova, Jung and, in addition, Marquez) which expose four (plus 1) different ways of recovering the elemental features of what we might call the formative period, the habitat that deter- mined, in a sense, a shape of personal sensibility and for this reason can be read as a kind of promise of rewriting.
