Abstract

Jason W. Moore’s work represents one of the most significant interventions in the debate on the concept of the Anthropocene, coined by microbiologist Eugene Stoermer in the 1980s and made famous by Nobel Prize winner for chemistry Paul Crutzen since 2000.3 Lately, the term has become something of a fashion statement, a catchy word, particularly in the social sciences - as evidenced by the launch of three international journals devoted exclusively to it: Anthropocene, The Anthropocene Review and Elementa. The general press has also reacted enthusiastically: The Guardian, The New York Times and The Economist have frequently reported on the subject, which has also been bouncing around in Italy from time to time in il manifesto, la Repubblica and Corriere della Sera.
