The paper examines the protection of the rights of the defence in the Italian criminal process. The analysis is conducted on the legal level, taking into consideration the legal provisions involved by the research, as well as on the practical level. At this aim, most recent statistical data were considered. The research in field implied also various interviews with judges, prosecutors and defence counsels.
