Il violento disordine delle donne nella letteratura germanica medievale

The essay examines the violent behaviour of women within medieval Germanic texts, particularly in the Nibelung tradition - specifically Chriemhilt - as well as in some Icelandic sagas (such as the Laxdæla saga) and the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf. The depiction of this type of women gives an absolutely negative portrait of them because they are the bearers of social disorder, thus renouncing what was the fundamental function of women in medieval Germanic society as mediators of conflicts and exhorters to the men of the family, always, however, within the behavioural cages provided by the male ethics of the time.

Il saggio prende in esame il comportamento violento delle donne all'interno di testi germanici medievali, in particolare nella tradizione nibelungica - specificatamente Crimilde - nonché in alcune saghe islandesi (come la Laxdæla saga) e nel poema anglosassone Beowulf. La rappresentazione di questo tipo di donne ne dà un ritratto assolutamente negativo perché apportatrici del disordine sociale rinunciando così a quella che era la funzione fondamentale della donna nella società germanica medievale di mediatrice dei conflitti ed esortatrice nei confronti degli uomini di famiglia sempre, però, all'interno delle gabbie comportamentali previste dall'etica maschile del tempo.
