This chapter focuses on the deep interweaving of food, identity, and the memory of forced migration. Drawing on the literature of displacement and on food as heritage, as well as on documentary films, novels, recipe books, oral history documents, and objects, it focuses on discourse and practice surrounding foodways and recipes that were once part of a divided and shared history. It highlights how these discourses and practices became a way of othering ‘others’ and reimagining the lost community.
