On the relative and partial attitude to migration of professional musicians: immigrants and music in rural areas in Italy

The research on migrants' musics involves extremely wide-ranging themes and competences, which require in-depth investigations, spread over as long a period of time as possible: the things we see happening with apparent extreme rapidity actually coagulate very slowly. It is necessary to have recourse to history and historiographical categories in order to observe and analyse phenomena which otherwise, if read only on an eventual level, are scarcely or poorly comprehensible, or risk being flattened by empty or superficial observations relating to broad and insubstantial categories (“contact”, “hybridisation”, “sharing” are some of the most generic terms frequently used in reference to these phenomena).
