In this chapter, we offer an introductory description of the prevalence of obesity and childhood obesity by looking at the most recent evidence of these phenomena. The prevalence of obesity has increased dramatically over the past 30 years. Such an increase has been echoed on a global scale by a massive production of scientific articles and reports. Throughout the paragraphs, the reader will be introduced to what is described as a 'global epidemic' in order to become familiar with its key features.
