Historical perspectives have always played an important part in translation studies, but it was only around the beginning of the twenty-first century that translation history began to emerge as a specific field, one with its own developing methodology and metadiscourse and its own identifiable body of research – what we might describe as the emergence of a historiography of translation and interpreting (Rundle 2019).
