Chemical companies are willing to show that they are doing their best to address the sustainability issue, not only because of more stringent laws but also because of customers and market demand. Three are the main approaches employed: (i) the use of renewable resources (biomass) to produce chemicals, (ii) the use of renewable resources for energy production, and (iii) the limitation of CO2 emissions, including carbon dioxide capture and reuse. Bio-based monomers for bioplastics (which however should also be compostable and biodegradable) are being intensively studied, and a few examples either have been already implemented at a commercial level or are close to commercialization.

Abstract
Chemical companies are willing to show that they are doing their best to address the sustainability issue, not only because of more stringent laws but also because of customers and market demand. Three are the main approaches employed: (i) the use of renewable resources (biomass) to produce chemicals, (ii) the use of renewable resources for energy production, and (iii) the limitation of CO2 emissions, including carbon dioxide capture and reuse. Bio-based monomers for bioplastics (which however should also be compostable and biodegradable) are being intensively studied, and a few examples either have been already implemented at a commercial level or are close to commercialization.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
