The essay follows the 7th EAAE workshop (European Association for Architecture Education), held in Prague in 2019. Starting from the example of outstanding buildings in the Czech capital, the reflection concerns the debate about conservation and/or demolition of technical systems. A shift of perspective toward a holistic approach to conservation policies, where also technical elements represents a key issue is here emphasized, stressing the importance of fostering a balance among human comfort, conservation needs and low costs.
