This article studies the semantics of the Pahlavi technical term dastgird from the pragmatic and etymological points of view, and analyzes the complexity of its occurrences within the linguistic history of Middle Persian traditions in comparison with other pertinent languages and contemporary sources. The present study takes also in consideration the earlier syntagmatic usage of dastakarta- in Old Persian at the light of some parallels in other Indo-European languages.
