Pancytopenia and haemorrhagic diathesis in calves: Italian experience

In recent times, similar to Germany and other European countries, Italian farmers have alsobeen reporting the worrisome occurrence of haemorrhagic syndromes associated with pancytopenia in young calves. After having described their experience with the disease, the authors emphasize their conviction that perception of the prevalence in Italy is strongly underestimated. In fact, upon specific request, many practitioners as well as farmers report similar cases which they had experienced in the past but did not send to diagnostic centres. Out of the 16 farms affected which were directly examined by the authors, one had 12 clinical cases.
