The goal of this essay is to analyse the conception of «scarcity» underpinning the theory of value of Marginalism, in the attempt to investigate its philosophical assumptions and implications for the theory of property. In this context, I shall argue that the notion of «scarcity» – in its relationship with the opposite concept of «abundance» – is theoretized in a naturalistic key, which elevates it to a «pure» category of economic theory, depriving it of its historical dimension. To this end, focusing on the work of Menger, Jevons and Walras, I shall starting from their approach to the theory of value.

Abstract
The goal of this essay is to analyse the conception of «scarcity» underpinning the theory of value of Marginalism, in the attempt to investigate its philosophical assumptions and implications for the theory of property. In this context, I shall argue that the notion of «scarcity» – in its relationship with the opposite concept of «abundance» – is theoretized in a naturalistic key, which elevates it to a «pure» category of economic theory, depriving it of its historical dimension. To this end, focusing on the work of Menger, Jevons and Walras, I shall starting from their approach to the theory of value.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
