Abstract
By means of a historical, political and lexical comparison of some late antique sources, an analysis of the characteristic of insolentia is proposed. The term, known since the classical period (Seneca, but also Cicero), is not frequently used in the sources of of the fourth and fifth centuries AD, but it takes on nuances full of interesting meanings. The analysis aims to show how insolentia can be thought of as a niche term, a familiar jargon used by some pagan sources (and also by some Christian sources, at least Orosius and Lactantius) of the fourth and fifth centuries AD, although in different contexts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
