Simmaco’s interest in Formia is known through the description of the renovation works of some buildings in the city that he himself provides us with in his works. Considering these interventions a sort of patronage exercised by him against various places in Campania (such as Pozzuoli and Terracina and Suessa) and also considering these renovations as an evidence of the links between senatorial aristocracy and Campania society, we try to analyze some passages to highlight not only the social cross-section but also the historical-anthropological interest and more properly material, with particular attention to the use of the historiographic lexicon.

Abstract
Simmaco’s interest in Formia is known through the description of the renovation works of some buildings in the city that he himself provides us with in his works. Considering these interventions a sort of patronage exercised by him against various places in Campania (such as Pozzuoli and Terracina and Suessa) and also considering these renovations as an evidence of the links between senatorial aristocracy and Campania society, we try to analyze some passages to highlight not only the social cross-section but also the historical-anthropological interest and more properly material, with particular attention to the use of the historiographic lexicon.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
