The article examines the first big show trial of Stalin's era - the so-called Chakhty trial - that took place in 1928 in the Soviet Union. In particular, it analyses its perception by the French diplomacy that took a deep interest in this trial not only because it was perceived as a sign of german-soviet crisis but also as it presented certain challenges for the bilateral relations between the USSR and France itself.
