The essay examines the translations of the Hildebrandslied into French in the first half of the 19th century. Hildebrandslied is an Old High German poem, the only example of the heroic poetic tradition, so it is interesting to understand for which reasons, and in which ways, the poem was received and translated in the French-speaking area at the beginning of the 19th century. The study then presents and comments on translations by Gérard Gley, Jean-Jacques Ampère, René de Chateaubriand. Jules Michelet, Frédéric Gustave Eichhoff, Edélestand Pontas Du Méril and Antoine Frédéric Ozanam. Many of these translations derive their motivation from the search for a common Germanic past made explicit in the French area by the domination of the Franks. At the same time, the translations denounce their relations with the hypothetical and the different critical editions produced in the German area.
Il saggio prende in esame le traduzioni del Hildebrandslied in lingua francese nella prima metà del XIX secolo. Il Hildebrandslied è un carme in alto-tedesco antico, unico esemplare della tradizione poetica eroica, perciò risulta interessante cogliere per quali ragioni, e in quali modi, il carme è stato recepito e tradotto in area francofona agli inizi dell'Ottocento. Lo studio allora presenta e commenta le traduzioni di Gérard Gley, Jean-Jacques Ampère, René de Chateaubriand. Jules Michelet, Frédéric Gustave Eichhoff, Edélestand Pontas Du Méril e Antoine Frédéric Ozanam. Molte di quelle traduzioni traggono la propria motivazione dalla ricerca di un comune passato germanico esplicitato in area francese dalla dominazione dei Franchi.
