„Goethe ist eigentlich etwas Heide“. Henriette Herz’ reflektierte Auseinandersetzung mit Goethe und seinem Werk

Henriette Herz is considered to be an important representative of the Goethe Cult. For this reason, this paper deals with her stance towards Goethe and his work. Since Henriette Herz’s person and oeuvre has sometimes been discussed without considering her actual writings, this article is going to be letting Henriette Herz herself speak as often as possible. So we will be reading texts from her correspondance with Friedrich Schleiermacher, Ludwig Börne, Johannes Veit, August Twesten, Frederik Christian Sibbern, and Louise Seidler. In addition, we will be analyzing texts which were not addressed to her, but written by authors who, nevertheless, were in some way connected to her. In order to recreate the development of her way of thinking, we will be proceeding chronologically. The aim is not completeness, but a representative, informative selection of epistolary material.
