The article offers a survey of the different forms the object "holy book", i.e. the Bible assumed during the long history from, ad it were, revelation on the Sinai (the tablets), through the scroll to the printed book. The relationship between form and function is presented in its peculiar complexity within Jewish tradition as a combination of narrative and exegesis. Some examples of the typical mise-en-page of the first wo Rabbinic Bibles published by Daniel Bomberg are analysed together with one of the poems printed with the book and celebrating its features.
