The article starts by briefly discussing the development of border studies in the framework of debates on globalization. It then tackles the question of borders in a Marxist perspective, starting from Marx himself. Such questions as the constitution of the world market, the (international) division of labor, and the working of the labor market are then discussed in this regard, taking into account the state of the art and trying to go beyond it.
