The Journal de Trévoux, or Mémoires pour l’Histoire des Sciences & des Beaux-Arts is a Jesuit literary journal that appeared monthly in France from January 1701 to December 1767. It was aimed at reviewing and commenting on newly publications from different research fields, from arts and humanities to theology, from philosophy and law to sciences, in order to provide the catalogue of an ‘ideal library’. While tentatively pursuing impartiality, its editorial policy reflects the much-complicated history of the journal as well as the history of the Jesuit order itself and its attitude towards Enlightenment culture. For this reason, the Mémoires may serve as a valuable means to understand what was left of the Galileo’s affair in 18th century in France and Europe. I will particularly focus on book reviews and extracts related to physics and astronomy, paying attention on how Galileo Galilei is (or is not) mentioned.

Abstract
I will particularly focus on book reviews and extracts related to physics and astronomy, paying attention on how Galileo Galilei is (or is not) mentioned.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
