Abstract
The «re-foundation» of Phoenician colonies, set in strategic areas within Carthage’s program of territorial expansion in the Mediterranean area, upon which Carthage embarked since the end of the 7th century B.C. by sending there some of its citizens who would become the ‘m of the cities involved in the political interests of the metropolis, encompassed also Motya as attested by strong evidence in the urban area ravaged by Syracusans in 397 B.C. To such a Carthaginian outline we refer presenting the latest research carried out in June 2009 in the north-eastern area of the «house of mosaics» by the Expedition of the University of Bologna , in cooperation with the Soprintendenza per i Beni Culturali e ambientali at Trapani, the J.Whitaker Foundation and the Consorzio Universitario della Provincia di Trapani. New evidence that will be presented includes some considerations about reused architectural fragments, mosaic decoration and the evidence attesting to the construction of a gate in the wall circuit.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
