Der Diskursmarker als Forschungsgegenstand an der Schnittstelle von kontrastiver Linguistik und Translationswissenschaft.

In Romance linguistics and in German-speaking translation studies oriented towards Romance linguistics, research on modal particles and connectors follows a well-established tradition. The aim of this conceptual paper that highlights the interface of contrastive linguistics and translation studies is threefold: First, it acknowledges the tradition and delineates the variety of contrastive approaches to these linguistic phenomena subsumed under the notion of discourse markers. Second, it integrates a methodological approach originating from cross-linguistic research on pragmatic markers. Third, it suggests some epistemological and conceptual consequences for research at the interface of contrastive linguistics and translation studies. Thereby, it lays particular emphasis on differentiating distinct research aims, on taking into account the conditions for equivalence and on considering the role of context in relation to the function(s) of a discourse marker.
