Au-delà du régionalisme: les poétiques du proche dans l’entre-deux-guerres

In anthologies and literary histories of the inter-war period, one can read a lot about regional or regionalist literature. Literary works with a clear link to a place, most of which coincided with the origins of their authors, were indeed numerous at the time; the "awakening of the provinces" that characterises the beginning of the twentieth century and which reached its peak in the inter-war period is not without influence on that. However, my hypothesis is that of these two factors, spatial location and proximity to a reality, it is the latter that deserves to be emphasised the most in order to fully grasp the functioning and success of a certain part of French literature in the 1920s and 1930s. I think that, beyond the geographical inscription of literature, the idea of proximity emerges in the inter-war period as a crucial criterion to enhance the value of literary works.
