The aim of this paper is to present an empirical descriptive study of the treatment of cultural references in the German and Spanish translations of Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog. Our analysis not only includes two target cultures, but also three different periods of time: the first translation in both cultures, a translation in the eighties and a translation in the nineties. We analyse 62 cultural references in order to describe how the translation of cultural references changes depending on the target culture and why and how it evolves through time. The main aim of this study is to observe the dynamic nature of culturemes and how it influences translation. This study pretends to be a first approximation to a model of transmission of culture in translation.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to present an empirical descriptive study of the treatment of cultural references in the German and Spanish translations of Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog. Our analysis not only includes two target cultures, but also three different periods of time: the first translation in both cultures, a translation in the eighties and a translation in the nineties. We analyse 62 cultural references in order to describe how the translation of cultural references changes depending on the target culture and why and how it evolves through time. The main aim of this study is to observe the dynamic nature of culturemes and how it influences translation. This study pretends to be a first approximation to a model of transmission of culture in translation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
