The essay aims to discuss Heidegger's interpretation of early Christian life, with particular reference to the Freiburg lecture course of 1920-21 entitled "Introduction to the Phenomenology of Religion". The expectation of the Parousia, the second coming of Christ, which characterizes the existence of early Christians, is fullfilled in a "turning toward God". Their task is to transform their life through a "countermovement" of thought, against the tendency to dispersion. Moreover, in early Christian life the meaning of temporality is determined by the relationship with God.
