The Islamic place of worship in Bethlehem is discussed in the light of textual sources and comparative material from other cities located in Palestine. The difficulty in locating the exact site of the Islamic place of worship in Bethlehem is explained by the controversial tradition on the partition of churches between Christians and Muslims after the 7th-century Islamic conquest. It explains the attitude of both Christian and Islamic traditions in changing the locales of holy sites with the passing of time.
