μMPS3 is not a real chip, nor a real machine, though there is no reason why it could not be. μMPS3 is an architecture/system specification designed to aid students in their study of operating systems. As such, it is based on the MIPS R2/3000 RISC architecture. umps3 is a software artifact, that faithfully emulates a μMPS3 machine. umps3 faithfully executes μMPS3/MIPS assembly created by the standard gnu gcc MIPS cross compiler.
