This paper presents the faunal data emerged from a recent reassessing of the animal bone remains recovered during the excavations carried out by Gaetano Chierici at Tana della Mussina, in 1871-72 which were then displayed in showcases at the Museo Civico di Reggio Emilia. The concomitant presence of human and animal remains, often bearing combustion traces, clearly identifies Tana della Mussina as a ceremonial site where rituals connected to the funerary sphere took place during the Chalcolithic. The 49 osteological fragments have been analysed, recorded and, where possible, the fractures reconstructed. Possible correspondences between the studied remains and those described in the nineteenth-century reports have also been explored. The archaeozoological analysis allowed anatomical identification for 37 skeletal portions, representing eight different species. Domestic animals, including goats, sheep, pigs and bovids, were the majority. Despite wild animals were rarer, remains of wild boar, deer and a badger are nevertheless present. The presence of one remain of domestic rooster (Gallus sp.), certainly intrusive, has also to be reported.

Abstract
The presence of one remain of domestic rooster (Gallus sp.), certainly intrusive, has also to be reported.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
