The contribute presents an appraisal about the last years of research led by the University of Bologna in the northern Marche, between Cesano, Misa and Nevola valley, discussing the contribution of the non invasive techniques for the landscape and its archaeological understanding. Special focus is reserved to the new acquisitions towards the open issues concerning the period of transition between the Iron Age and the roman conquest of the territory, largely related to the Picenian culture.
