The maritime villa in Contrada S. Nicola, known since the 17th century and called in literature Villa Sora, underwent openair excavations for the first time only between 1989 and 1992. On that occasion, was brought to light part of an area that the quality of its decorative system indicate as residential and luxurious. Both the opus sectile floors and the wall paintings are remarkable; the latter constitute a refined example of the August Mau “ornamental style”. This contribute is dedicated to those fragments, which are only to a small extent recomposed and mostly still waiting to be studied and restored, and to their inclusion in the current state of studies on Vesuvian painting.
