The essay proposes a confrontation between the Western interpretation of human rights and the Islamic and Arab ones and points out the possibility of a convergence with the Arab interpretation of human rights. The essay introduces the concept of multiculturalism as a third way between universalism and relativism on the ground of the so-called "diatopical hermeneutics", that declares that all cultures are incomplete and that the result of the "diatopical hermeneutics" is the awareness of reciprocal incompleteness (R. Panikkar, B. de Sousa Santos). In this way there is the possibility of enriching every culture with the missing items (topoi) that one can find in a different culture.
